Move on at your own pace
Don't try to do everything at once. You will progress more efficiently if you study little and more often, rather than trying to cover large piece of material in one go.
Review often
Don't expect to understand and remember everything the first time you come across something new. Listen to the recordings as many times as you need before moving starting a new theme or a unite. Go back from time to time and listen to dialogues from previous units and periodically trying again some activities or grammar exercises which you have already done before.

Talk to yourself

Make your own dictionary with a record of useful vocabulary. The best way is to divide it into sections (food, family, transport, etc.) to help you organize the words and phrases by certain themes. Test yourself with the vocabulary learnt by covering one of the columns.

Don't get stuck
You will probably need to work through the materials of each unit of your textbook several times before you can move to the next unit, but don't get stuck. Especially if you're a learning Russian yourself without tutor's or teacher's help. If you have particular difficulty with certain grammar section, leave it for a while and move on to the next one. You may find that much easier in a few weeks time and will be surprised that things will fall into place without forcing.
